all about the Port Credit BIA
BIA Staff
The Port Credit BIA’s dedicated staff work year-round to execute BIA goals.
They all use their unique skills to improve the economic health and quality of life in Port Credit. The work they do helps to benefit member businesses, as well as local residents and new or frequent visitors.
History of Port Credit
Port Credit was established as a pioneer village and trading post in the 1720’s. At the time, since goods were typically traded or bought on credit, the names Port Credit and Credit River were adopted.
The iconic lighthouse, which is one of Mississauga’s best-known landmarks, was constructed in 1991 to replicate the original, which was destroyed by a fire in 1936. The present lighthouse serves as a reminder of Port Credit’s marine heritage and is home not only to a pumping station, but also to the Port Credit BIA.
Strategic plan
The Port Credit BIA set out on a community mission and began a conversation about the neighbourhood’s complexity and what the BIA envisions for the future. Path To 2022 is the result of this discussion and acts as a roadmap to help the BIA deliver a focused approach for planning the future of Port Credit.
In Memory Of
Beatrice Moreira-Laidlow, General Manager
Port Credit BIA’s challenge this year, was not just the pandemic, but the untimely death of our dear General Manager, Beatrice Moreira-Laidlow. Beatrice was involved with the BIA for 20 years and volunteered her time to all the events and festivals that helped put Port Credit on the map.
The spirit, love, and infectious smile that Beatrice shared made us all better. She loved Port Credit and cared deeply for the business community and the people that make our Village so special. In her honor, we have commemorated the naming of the Lighthouse landing to "The Queen Bea Lookout".
